The lake itself has relatively few waterbirds but the surrounding woods have many good birds. Specialities include Orange-breasted Green Pigeon, Nilgiri Wood Pigeon, nesting Crested Serpent Eagle and two Grey Nightjars that sit all day close to the path. There is no longer a reliable, accessible roosting site for Brown Fish Owl here and past reports of roosting Indian Nightjar were apparently erroneous.

All the sites in this section are treated, in detail and with precise maps and directions, in my book ‘Finding Birds in North Goa’

If you have any information which you feel would help to update the book, please email me at dave@easybirder.co.uk and I’ll add your observations to these pages

Mayem Lake

Wednesday, 24 August 2011

The lake can be viewed from a lakeside ‘resort’.

It’s best to arrive early in the morning and to scan the distant trees for birds such as Orange-breasted Green Pigeon.

The small lake at the far end of the path has previously been a good site for Brown Fish Owl
