Mika Bruun, a top birder from Espoo, suggested that the best areas were north of Haukkalampi

Nuuksio

Nuuksio National Park is the finest and wildest area of woodland close to Helsinki – one of the best places to look for woodpeckers and with a chance of owls, Capercaillie and Hazel Grouse too. In summer, both Red-breasted Flycatcher and Greenish Warbler occur here in variable numbers.
I walked south from this car park at Hogbacka but failed to find the best species - until I had a Grey-headed Woodpecker in these birches by the car park.
