This is the view of Vardo looking back from Hornoy. The channel between the two islands is the best place to look for King Eiders and Brunnich’s Guillemots.
All the sites in this section are treated, in detail and with precise maps and directions, in my book ‘Finding Birds in Lapland’
If you have any information which you feel would help to update the book, please email me at dave@easybirder.co.uk and I’ll add your observations to these pages

Bardvikmyra is one of the best places around Varanger for tundra species, especially skuas and Red-throated Divers
Vardö is the best place in Europe to see King Eider and Steller’s Eider in both winter (thousands) and summer (just a few). Huge numbers of Brünnich’s Guillemots gather here in March. Glaucous Gull and Iceland Gull are also regular and the tundra just inland from here is exceptionally good
Here’s the view in the opposite direction from Hasselnes on Vardo island. This is the best place from which to view King Eiders and it’s possible to see Brunnich’s Guillemots from here even if you don’t want to make the boat trip to Hornoy
The south bay on Hornoy is traditionally a great site for King Eider but there were none in the summer of 2010
This lake, opposite the hill of Domen, had red-throated Divers and Long-tailed Duck plus Arctic Skua, Dotterel and Lapland Bunting nearby.
