This is Acheleia reedbeds not far from the sewage works. It doesn’t look much but this was a terrific spot for crakes in 2010. The lovely footage of Spotted Crake, Little Crake, Water Rail and Kingfisher that you see in the DVD was all obtained by just standing still in the shadows to the right of this picture
All the sites in this section are treated, in detail and with precise maps and directions, in my book ‘Finding Birds in Southern Cyprus’
If you have any information which you feel would help to update the book, please email me at dave@easybirder.co.uk and I’ll add your observations to these pages

Paphos Sewage Works
Wednesday, 24 August 2011
The area around Paphos sewage works, including Acheleia reeds and the Ezousas soakaway can be great for migrants too. The sewage works were being modernised in 2010. This was creating disturbance which minimised its value to birds but it is hoped that it will revert to being a top site for waders wagtails and pipits
