birding sites in Goa

Despite being very close to Calangute, this site is missed by many visiting birders. It’s worth visiting to look for waterfowl and Yellow-wattled Lapwing.

All the sites in this section are treated, in detail and with precise maps and directions, in my book ‘Finding Birds in North Goa’

If you have any information which you feel would help to update the book, please email me at dave@easybirder.co.uk and I’ll add your observations to these pages

Pilerne Lake

Wednesday, 24 August 2011

This is the first view you get of the lake as you approach from the village. Look towards the building for the lapwings. Those pools on the right looked like they should be great for bitterns and Painted Snipe if you were to linger at dusk.

This view of the lake from the same spot shows how extensive it can be in a wet year.

In a dry year however, the water may be restricted to a small puddle at this far end.
