An excellent wetland area for ducks, grebes and, especially herons and cormorants. It has been designated as a World Birding Center with a magnificent visitor center.

All the sites in this section are treated, in detail and with precise maps and directions, in my book ‘Finding Birds in South Texas’

If you have any information which you feel would help to update the book, please email me at and I’ll add your observations to these pages

The entrance to the reserve is marked by this impressive sign. Well, it would be impressive if you could read what it said.
